Fond memories of the river bridge

A Pruitt photo in the spring edition of Catfish Alley brought back for me fond memories. It was the picture of people are gathered for a baptism with the Tombigbee bridge in the background. When I saw this particular pic I thought about the bridge and its history. It's been restored and will be continued to serve as a special place for people to gather. But for me, growing up in this small town, it evokes a lot of memories. It was a passage home for me. We lived about six miles out in the "country." My home is gone to give way for the new four-lane that was completed a few years back. Many out-of-towners may have crossed the bridge on the way to the Silver Spur, The Club, Bob's Place or any of the other establishments in the day. My grandparents built and owned Campbell's Deluxe Motel, about a mile west of the bridge. Though the rust is gone and the potholes fixed, my memories remain.
