Voters can put end to trash talking pols
The devil must be renting ice skates. Again, I find myself, on rare occasion, agreeing with Leonard Pitts. He doesn’t seem to fully accept that Democrats are just as guilty as Republicans when it comes to hateful rhetoric, but at least he thinks it should be toned down.
In days of yore, fist-fights and duels with knives or pistols at 10 paces were apt to happen when political foes disagreed. President Andrew Jackson carried a pistol ball in his chest from such a duel when a newspaper editor besmirched Mrs. Jackson’s reputation, saying she wasn’t divorced from her husband when she married Andy. Quite an interesting story describing the courage of both Jackson and his foe that day, which ended with his opponent’s supporters trying to indict Jackson for murder.
This country would be much better off without the likes of Trump and Pelosi, and others on both sides, acting like grammar school children on a playground, “My dad can beat up your dad.”
Unfortunately, that’s what American voters have responded to recently. If America is to rise above this trash talk, America’s voters must rise first.
