Poll worker maintains improprieties occurred in general election
I appreciate Alex Holloway’s follow-up article about the election irregularities during the last city election but I must disagree with comments made by Election Commissioner Leon Speck.
Majority rules had nothing to do with the problem. We had only looked at three absentee ballots when City Clerk Brenda Williams forbid us from inspecting any signatures. Commissioner Speck agreed with her that we were not to compare the signatures, even after Commissioner Josie Shumake showed both of them the instructions in the Secretary of State’s Poll Managers’ Guide.
This was a violation of State law, pure and simple. The fact that Brenda Williams is now denying this fact makes the situation even sadder.
Margo Bretz was working as a poll watcher for one of the candidates and wrote-down verbatim what Mrs. Williams said to us and has agreed to say so in my formal complaint to the Attorney General’s office.
