'Horrified' by city's move to abolish CVB
I was horrified when I read in Wednesday's Dispatch that the City Council voted to obliterate the Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Obviously, the members of the Council and the Mayor do not comprehend all the work the CVB does on behalf of our city.
Are the city "leaders" now going to be in the business of attracting conventions, fishing rodeos, soccer tournaments and general tourists to our city?
If they do try, how are they going to facilitate those events? Are they going to man the Welcome Center?
I certainly hope they do not take this job on. Just look at the embarrassing paving job done by them on 10th Street North between Second and Third avenues. That will be the future of out tourism industry!
Please, "gentlemen," do not be like our people in Washington. Please think about your constituents who elect you, pay your salary, and provide your health insurance. Stop being obstinate little boys and look for a compromise. How can you let this organization and its funding go? This would be a travesty.
I love Columbus and have always defended it, but I really do worry about its future. I hope you will take a step in changing my mind by working to keep the CVB in business.
