Taxes on online sales is not a new tax
Charlie Mitchell, like some of our Mississippi House members, would like everyone to believe that the collection of sales taxes by online merchants that have no presence in the state is a tax increase, when in fact it is a means to collect the Use Tax that state residents were not paying for items purchased for use in the State of Mississippi. It is therefore not a tax increase but a means for the State to collect state sales tax that was fraudulently not being paid by a large portion of its citizens.
