Thoughts on recent columns
Something’s gone haywire. I find myself agreeing with some liberal columns lately, but there’s a big “but” as always. Leonard Pitts wrote a few days ago that black men need to “man-up” (my term) when it comes to women, and especially black women. I say ALL men need to treat ALL women with a lot more respect. The same goes for women treating men. Obviously, I’m talking about mature people, not just those whose IDs say they’re adult.
Mona Charen wishes for a “party of reality” to replace the current two major parties. If either political party will stop being concerned first and foremost with their own backsides, and focus entirely on what’s good for America, that party will dominate politics for many years to come. I forget who it was that said when the voters find out they can vote themselves money, democracy is destroyed. That’s the main plank of the Democrat Party — “free” stuff for everyone!
Zack Plair thinks “perhaps we’ve forgotten how to treat each other as human.” Once upon a time everybody knew the Golden Rule, but then God was removed from schools, public places (courtrooms, city halls, etc), and families drifted further away from Christian ideals.
Froma Harrop thinks Nancy Pelosi is a “model of self-control.” She is a retired test pilot from a broom factory, and doesn’t care about the American people in general. She insisted that President Trump end the partial government shutdown before she’d allow negotiations on the border security wall, but I’ve watched DC politics involving Democrats long enough to know she was lying outright, with no intentions of honoring her “promise.”
Recent “movies” show the blatant bias of Hollywood. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Madeline Albright have been portrayed as real heroines, great women in American politics, and former Vice President Dick Cheney has been portrayed as a pure villain. BS! I haven’t seen any of these movies, and don’t intend to, but the ads on TV were enough.
If anybody thinks young people are “flee(ing) this backwards state” in droves because of a stupid holiday, they’re delusional. There are a lot of reasons that all figure in. We’re at or near the bottom of almost all “good” lists and the top of almost all “bad” lists. Look at the whole picture if you really want to see the truth. Work on solving all the “little” individual problems and that will do more good than anything else.
The wall won’t solve the problem of illegal immigration, but it will help to slow it. An even better way would be for every state to use E-verify and strongly punish employers who hire illegal aliens. Deport illegals one time. If caught a second time, put ’em in prison for a while. No entitlements for anyone who is not a true American. We have too many leeches sucking on the government teat who are home-grown.
No Confederate soldiers were charged with treason, for a reason. When people today insist that should have happened, they weren’t there and never experienced the times, so shut up and leave it alone. It’s in the past. Let it stay there.
I’ve never liked Daylight Savings Time. If businesses want to open their doors an hour earlier during the summer months, that’s their prerogative. As I see it, the government has no authority to mandate time, but then the federal government has done a lot that I don’t think it has the authority to do.
Folks, when you go to the polls to vote, don’t vote for somebody you’d “like to have a beer with”. My God! I can’t think of a better reason to vote against a candidate! We really need responsible leaders in this country, but first we need responsible VOTERS. Educate yourselves on the qualifications for all candidates for all positions, then vote as if the future of America depends on it.
