As a believer of science, I once thought I would be successful in making renewable fossil fuels from trees by cutting the process of millions of years down to minutes through chemical reactions. As a result, I thought one day the Noble Prize would be within my reach. No, I was not successful, but I did my PhD based on the project in 1983.
Amazingly scientific researches lead to many discoveries every year. Are all those scientific achievements for betterment for humans I wonder?
Recent reports suggests the U.S. “Ninja Missile” killed jihadist leader with sword-like precision. I assume this missile was developed to avoid mass killing?
On the other hand, Putin revealed the making of an unparalleled invisible hypersonic nuclear missile that can destroy a city in a minute.
A tiny poor underdeveloped country named North Korea cannot feed her own people but is working and testing on long distance nuclear ballistic missiles. Crazy indeed!
Is killing each other innate to the human? Why are the countries around the world spending billions of dollars with an objective to make weapons just to kill human?
The archaeological pictures of different societies around the world suggest that humans were always involved in warfare. So, no doubt, killing human is in fact innate behavior.
I can understand our ancestors were not civilized. However, now we claim to be civilized. But aren’t we still doing the same thing of killing humans, just on a bigger scale?
One time, colonialism and imperialism used to run based on strength of the countries or superpowers. There were world wars and there were avoidable battles around the world. This still continues. What for?
Couldn’t we forget religious conflicts amongst us? There is no guarantee or real proof of landing in heaven or hell after death.
How can one justify the defense budget for every country in the world? The U.S. tops the list with an almost $650 billion defense budget followed by China ($250 billion), Russia ($65 billion). Even North Korea spends about $10 billion yearly on defenses.
Look at the United Kingdom. At one time there were no sun-set in the British Empire. What a mighty power! It all disintegrated and soon it may be just England. Still its defense budget is about $50 billion.
Interestingly, there are several countries that have no active military forces. In fact, many developed countries in Europe spend minimum in defenses.
On the other hand, 11.3 percent of the world’s population is hungry, with not enough food to lead a healthy life. If the world came to a consensus and 11.3 percent of the defense budget of every country was diverted to food security, the world would look a lot greener with millions of smiling faces around.
Scientists developed chemical weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and at the same time, the world unitedly banned the use of that type of WMD. Why do we not stop producing weapons meant to kill masses of humans and why do we not stop even researching those weapons?
