Supports Nunnelee

Travis Childers, our Congressman from the 1st District, says in his TV ad, "I''ve done what I said I''d do." Really! Voting for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House, accepting a fundraiser from Barney Frank, and voting with the liberal Democrats to put our grandchildren over $800 million in debt are not the things most of the people in the 1st District would approve. If these are some of your proud accomplishments, then we need a new Congressman!

Alan Nunnelee has been a responsible leader in Mississippi, holding the line on frivolous spending, balancing our state budget, helping real businesses create real jobs. I''ll be supporting Nunnelee in November.

Nan Lott, Columbus

Nan Lott:When those liberal Democrats under the leadership of Clinton were in office, our grandchildren had no debt, but a surplus.
Not until Bush and the Republicans came along did our grandchildren have a debt.
Definition of distort-twist out of shape, misrepresent.
Why does voting for Nancy Pelosi upset you? What has she done that seems to be so detrimental to us as Americans? She is there because of Bush and the Republicans who failed the American people so miserably.
You state that Nunnelee has been a responsible leader in Mississippi, holding the line on frivolous spending, and balancing our budget. It's a law that our budget must be balanced.
Definition of distort;twist out of shape, misrepresent.
Tell us some of the businesses Nunnelee has helped create real jobs or is this just more political rhetoric?

After his first mid-term election Clinton had a Republican Congress. Hopefully so will Obama.

Hope, your comments reveal the height of your blooming ignorance which are reruns of the junk you are fed by the likes of MSNBC. Frank is correct, we're lucky the Repubs gained power after just two years of the slickster and the same thing is going to happen with Barry. Shame on you for being disrespectful to a great lady, Nan Lott. She bravely and proudly signs her real name to her comments. Why don't you? Because you don't, I think you are just the opposite of Mrs. Lott, opposite being cowardly and not proud of who and what you are.
If you want to take issue with that , just name the time and place. Otherwise , knock off all the low life liberal minded jibber jabber.

Melody, you're exactly in tune with the general GOP approach to politics today: berate someone for behaving as you do while expecting that nobody will notice or point out your hypocrisy.

Article Comment gogetum commented at 9/20/2010 5:51:00 PM:

My goodness, melody, you must have struck a nerve or two. Old quick draw kj just had to throw in his liberal 50 cents worth. Naturally , the liberal thing to do is call every body a hypo when everything else fails. In fact, they are all pretending they didn't vote for obamacare and many are now praising the Bush tax cuts for everybody, 40 of them in congress. Look at the Obama's , even going to church. Hey kj, how's that for a sample of hypocrisy? I agree with melody and I'm an independent, just a registered voter. Is it possible that kj and hope are close relatives? Just a thought.

Article Comment kj commented at 9/20/2010 6:36:00 PM:

Hypocrisy: the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform.

When Melody anonymously berates a poster for posting anonymously.

A sample of hypocrisy should include hypocrisy. Alleging that "they are all" behaving hypocritically is hyperbole at best. As a christian, I would expect Obama to attend a service of some type. I do not know the identity of Hope. That leaves open the possibility, however unlikely, that she is a close relative.

And yes, you did indeed express a thought gogetum, congratulations. Now that you've had one, you'll likely find the next one won't take so long.

Article Comment observer2 commented at 9/20/2010 11:15:00 PM:

is kj saying Obama is a Christian because he goes to church once or twice a year? Or is kj saying he is a Christian and expects his president to attend a service every Sunday? Is he saying Obama is a hypocrit because he doesn't conform to his expections of him to attend a service weekly instead of annually? kj did give his meaning of hypocrisy--
Hypocrisy: the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform.
From all the info I've gathered about Obama, his behavior does not conform to the moral standards and beliefs he claims to have.

It also sounds like kj is saying gogetum is not a thinker and is like a blind hog who luckely finds an acorn now and then . What a thought! I do agree with kj that the libs always berate conservatives for what they are guilty of themselves. Any time the libs start finger pointing , it's for sure they are trying to divert attention away from their own actions. It sure is confusing sometimes , isn't it. And what does all this have to do with Nan Lott's letter?
Probably best to just let hope and melody go back and forth with no interference.
So ,why don't you all just shake hands and vote for Nunnlee so we can all get along. It's probably the right thing to do.

Article Comment hope commented at 9/21/2010 8:10:00 AM:

@Nan Lott----------Why is voting for Pelosi so bad? Nunnelee says the first thing he will do if elected will be to vote to fire Pelosi. Why? The Tea Party has a bus going to 117 cities with fire Pelosi on it. Why? I never read or hear why they want to fire Pelosi? Why? You would think that she was to blame for our economy tanking instead of the Republicans. To me, the more the Republicans want to fire her, the more things she is doing right for the people.
Will Nan or anyone answer my question. If not, why?

Article Comment kj commented at 9/21/2010 4:09:00 PM:

As Obama is a christian, I'm not surprised that he went to church. I'm not surprised he doesn't go every week to church and I don't find his infrequent attendance to be hypocritical. I'm not sure what you've gathered about Obama. You've called him a hypocrite but offered no reason.

Yes, that is the gist of my comment to gogetum. I didn't call him a blind hog, though. And why would i? Hogs are known for their particularly acute sense of smell; I would expect even a blind one to have no problem foraging for food. Perhaps a squirrel might be more apt, although for all I know their sense of smell could be even better than that of a wild pig.

People of both political stripes berate each other often. Some of us recognize that about ourselves, and some of us lack the perspective from which to do so. It's confusing to observe people like you, observer2,employ the rhetorical devices of 3rd graders. I'm rather surprised that you didn't actually post something like, "Conservatives are rubber and liberals are glue; everything you say bounces off of us and sticks to you!"

Right? That's what you did when you wrote "I do agree with kj that the libs always berate conservatives for what they are guilty of themselves," is it not?

The notion that the way for everyone to get along is for us all to vote for Nunnlee is telling. Compromise--if there is to be any--must come from the left, not the right. The implied (or not so implied when you watch conservatives continually purge any they perceive as "heretics" from their ranks) threat is always there. Given this, it's not too difficult to conclude that the decline of rhetoric likely stems from the lack of need for it in todays politics. One merely has to shout a series of lies, preferably in an angry tone, over and over like a child having a tantrum until enough of the general public is convinced to let you have your turn on the slide again. Even if the last time you were on it you broke three rungs; pushed someone else off the top; slid into someone at the bottom because to not have done so would have involved delaying your turn 3 more seconds; and started a fight at the bottom with the child you ran into. If someone attempts to fix the rungs you broke, scream even louder. With fear and intimidation as your weapons, there's no need to do any difficult analysis or provide real solutions to real problems.

kj-that's a whole lot of cobble d gook just to say you don't want to shake hands and don't want to vote for Nunnlee. See how easy it is, all you needed was one sentence. Just a thought. Or as the observer put it , found another acorn.

What's up with kj? Has he lost it? He puts down observer for offering no reasons Obama is a hypocrit but offers no reasons himself why he is so sure Obama is a Christian. So now it's my turn to tell kj that he is exactly in tune with the general liberal democrat party approach to politics: berate someone for behaving as you do while expecting nobody will notice or point out your hypocrisy. Call it a thought, an acorn or what ever but go ahead and eat your own words, kj,as pasted below. Now, come on and join up with Nan Lott to help get Nunnelee elected. After seeing the false tax commericials Travis is putting out about Nunnelee, how can anyone still support Travis for being so dishonest in his tactics. I know they were paid for by the liberal democrats but Travis should have those pulled. They just aren't true.

@Nan Lott & Anne Burkart:Both of you are anxious to associate Childers with Pelosi, but not so much as to answering my question why. I think that you two have been watching FOX, the Republican network so much that ya'll have become like them. Praise the ones that almost destroyed our country under Bush, and demonize the ones who are trying to fix it.
Anne, put on your big-girl pants and answer my question.

Article Comment kj commented at 9/22/2010 11:00:00 AM:

Obama says he is a christian, he attends christian services and has for years. Christianity in general has very loose standards for membership, as different sects have differing tenets of faith. With no indication that he is not a christian besides some hysterical conspiracy theories offered by the usual suspects...it seems reasonable to afford him the benefit of the doubt.

The Childers campaign could have made the argument about the tax pledge he signed a little better, to be sure. It would be more accurate to call the ad misleading than false. The real ding against Nunnelee for the tax pledge is that he was for tax increases before he was against them. He voted to raise the tobacco tax just before signing this no new taxes pledge. That, combined with his older votes in favor of tax increases and breaking the pledge with the hospital bed tax so soon after signing the pledge, makes the pledge seem less than sincere.

I wouldn't expect too much care from either campaign, however, when it comes to making very clear claims. Both campaigns are playing fast and loose with the facts in order to score cheap points with lowest-common-denominator voters incapable of following a nuanced point for more than a sentence. Thanks to our education system, Mississippi enjoys an abundance of those voters.
