Playoff berths will be on the line this weekend when we participate in the ninth week of the prep football regular season.
Our area schedule features several key games. Some teams look to build on fast starts, while others look to build on new found success.
Here now is a look at some winners for Week Nine...
Columbus at Southaven
Columbus is riding high thanks to a 3-0 start in Class 6A, Region 1 play this season.
The Falcons now enter the difficult part of their schedule with three of the final four games being on the road. However, the recent strong play of the Falcons tells us that this team is more than ready for the challenge.
Southaven is 1-2 in region play, after last Friday's 13-7 overtime win over Tupelo. The Chargers will be looking to defend home turf and stay in the playoff race.
Meanwhile, Columbus is looking for more history.

Madison Central at Starkville High
Starkville High returns home while trying to move to 4-0 in Class 6A, Region 2 play.
In its first three region wins, Starkville has won by a combined score of 121-14. However, the steep challenges lie ahead with Warren Central and Clinton up in the final two week of the regular season.
Madison Central is getting things in order under first-year coach Brad Peterson. The 4-4 overall record is a testament to the up-and-down nature of the Jaguars.
Look for the Starkville machine to keep rolling.

Louisville at Noxubee County
Ah yes, after a brief halt, Louisville and Noxubee County are back competing as Class 4A, Region 4 rivals. Appropriately enough, both teams are off to 2-0 starts in region play.
Louisville is 6-2 overall with region wins over Leake Central and Caledonia. Noxubee County is 4-4 overall with region wins over Kosciusko and Leake Central.
This should indeed be a heavyweight showdown. It remains a good rivalry even though the teams were in different classifications in each of the past two seasons.
Noxubee County 28, Louisville 26
Kosciusko at Caledonia
After making postseason play a year ago, Caledonia is going to need a rally to return to the position for a second straight year.
Caledonia is 4-3 overall. The Confederates have lost back-to-back Class 4A, Region 4 losses to Houston (39-7) and Louisville (38-13). The Confederates have been churning out the yards but have been unable to reach the end zone on a consistent basis.
Kosciusko is 5-2 overall and 1-1 in region play. The Whippets are coming off a strong 36-7 victory over Houston. Kosciusko needs a win here to keep hopes alive for a top-two spot in region standings and a first-round playoff game at home.
Kosciusko 34, Caledonia 20
Pillow Academy at Starkville Academy
Starkville Academy will risk a four-game win streak when Pillow Academy comes to J.E. Logan Field. The Volunteers are 7-1 overall and 2-0 in district play, good enough to have already clinches first place in MAIS Class AAA, District 2 play.
Starkville Academy continues to flash the defensive leather. A week ago, Starkville Academy clinched that top spot in the district with a 21-14 home win over Leake Academy. It is a senior-laden team and you can tell they are getting better and better each week.
After a strong 2014 campaign, Pillow Academy has struggled this season with a 3-5 overall record. The Mustangs lack enough offensive firepower to compete in Class AAAA.
Starkville Academy 28, Pillow Academy 7
