Beginning in March, Mississippi State University”s Riley Center in Meridian will offer shuttle service between the Starkville campus and the historic performing arts venue.
University faculty, staff and students may use the service for a small fee. If space allows, others with performance tickets may also be able to use the shuttle, which will depart from a designated parking area at the north end of the Zacharias Village on the Starkville campus.
For patrons with performance tickets, the $10 roundtrip service begins Friday, March 4, with a show by country music star Sara Evans. It will continue through the 2011 spring-summer series.
Those interested in attending this and subsequent programs should contact the MSU Riley Center at 601-696-2200 and request a shuttle ticket prior to ordering concert tickets. The request should be made at least two days in advance. The shuttle fee will be added to the total ticket cost.
“We”re very excited about this project,” said Dennis Sankovich, Riley Center executive director. “We are eager to lessen the distance between our two campuses through this shuttle service.”
Funding for the project is provided by a grant from the Meridian-based Riley Foundation.
Shuttles of the University Transit Office will take patrons to the center”s front door and be in the location to pick them up after the performances. A student intern from the communication department will be along to make certain all riders are aboard for the return trip to Starkville.
All shows in the 2011 spring-summer series will include the shuttle option. Six performances include a pre-concert reception, and patrons will arrive in time to attend each preliminary event.
Other spring-summer shows include America March 10, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra April 2, Mavis Staples April 8, KEM April 16, Bruce Hornsby April 28, George Jones May 12, Robert Earl Keen May 20, Jonny Lang June 5, Victor Wooten July 20, and The Righteous Brothers” Bill Medley Aug. 5.
