Mississippi University for Women''s Office of Community Service has partnered with the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society to help raise money for the shelter''s new building fund.
A rummage sale is set for Saturday, March 26, from 8 a.m. to noon at 1601 Hwy. 45 North, next door to Millers OK Tire Store, Inc.
Both organizations are accepting clothes, shoes, furniture and dishes that are in good condition.
"Start your spring cleaning early and donate items to a good cause," said MUW student Cydney Archie, who is the community outreach coordinator for the community service office.
Two clothes bins are set up in different locations in Columbus. One is located downtown at WCBI-TV, 201 Fifth St. S., and the other at Food Giant, 201 Alabama St.
Donations may be taken to the Humane Society currently located at 13 Airline Road as well as on campus in Cochran Hall, Room 200. If you are not able to bring your items to their office, they will come to you.
Jessica Harpole, MUW coordinator of leadership and service, said, "Donations are coming in every day, and we think we will have a lot of great items by the end of the month. We are getting a good variety of items too."
The mission of the Humane Society is "to protect animals from suffering and cruelty, to provide care for animals afflicted by neglect, abandonment and exploitation, and to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption and compassion."
