Organizers say The Mississippi Kid Festival, a medical fund benefit concert for Columbus resident and Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Ean Evans, will be held Sunday, come rain or come shine.

Nationally known and local musicians and friends will honor Evans, who is battling cancer, with performances at the Columbus Fairgrounds, located off Highway 69 South.

Admission is a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children, age 10 and under.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd, minus drummer Michael Cartellone, will perform.

Additionally, members of the multi-platinum rock band 3 Doors Down, members of The Marshall Tucker Band, 38 Special and Molly Hatchet also will perform, as will Crossin Dixon.

The lineup also includes Atlanta-based Blackberry Smoke, The Dirt Brothers, of Memphis, Tenn., and local musicians including the Dawn Barham Band, Double Shot, the Kelsey Collins Band and others.

Gates will open at 8 a.m.; live entertainment begins at 2 p.m. and likely will last until at least 10 p.m.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and personal blankets; personal coolers are prohibited.

Food and beverage vendors will be on site.

Event information can be found at www.mississippikidfestival.com.

A fund to defray medical expenses for Evans has been established at Cadence Bank.
