Nick Durrah and Dylan Patel were the hitting leaders, while Chris McCullough and Hunter Mullis earned victories Saturday to lead the Columbus High School baseball team to an 18-0 win against Aberdeen and a 19-2 win against Noxubee County.
Noxubee County beat Aberdeen 8-4 in the other game.
In game one for Columbus, Nick Durrah hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field. Michael Sturdivant (double, RBI) had two hits. Glen Robinson also had an RBI double.
Lamar Young and Patel finished the shutout.
Against Noxubee County, Mullis (2-1) pitched a complete-game, two-hitter with six strikeouts.
Patel went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs. Greg Sykes, Eugene Prude, and Robinson were the other leading hitters.
Columbus (11-4) will travel Tuesday to play South Panola.
n New Hope goes 1-2: Landon Boyd had five RBIs, and Peyton Lee, Taylor Stafford, and Kameron Bryan each had three Saturday to lead the New Hope High School baseball team to a 25-13 victory against Gordo (Ala.) in five innings.
Earlier in the day, New Hope lost to Gordo 11-7.
In the second game, Lee went 1-for-4 with a double, Trae Collins had a hit and two RBIs, Dillon Hawkins was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI, Zac Nagy scored four runs and had an RBI, Jared Shelton was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, Boyd was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a double, Stafford was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a double, Josh Grimes scored three runs and had two RBIs, Bryan was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and Dusty Dyson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Will Golsan pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs and four hits. He truck out four.
In the first game against Gordo, Collins had an RBI, Hawkins, Shelton, and Bryan had a hit and an RBI, Golsan had a hit and two RBIs, Boyd was 2-for-4, Stafford scored two runs, and Dyson had two hits and an RBI.
Destin Hahn pitched five innings and allowed six earned runs and seven hits. He walked four and struck out three.
On Friday, New Hope lost to Oxford 16-8.
Lee and Bryan were 1-for-4 with two RBIs, Hawkins was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Nagy was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Stafford was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Dyson was 1-for-3, and Tee Payne had a hit.
Boyd allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out five.
n Starkville beats West Point: At Starkville, Garrett Batson pitched 6 1/3 strong innings Saturday to help the Starkville High School baseball team (4-5) snap a four-game losing streak with a 10-3 victory against West Point.
Earlier in the day, Starkville lost to Louisville 8-7.
Batson received support from Wesley Montgomery went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a single, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
Nathan Pugh was 5-for-5 with four RBIs in the loss to Louisville.
Starkville will play host to Tupelo at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
West Point (8-5) defeated Louisville 12-2 earlier in the day. On Friday, West Point committed five errors in a 9-3 loss to Saltillo. Dalentez Lane took the loss, going 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out four and walked one. Will Harrell allowed four hits, three runs (zero earned), and struck out three and walked two.
Freddie Reed had a double, Tommy Keys had two hits, and Lane, Dawson Davis, Brandon Edwards, and Leroy Calvert also had hits.
West Point will play Tuesday at New Hope at 7 p.m.
n West Lowndes splits two games: At Nanih Waiya, Tyquan Lucious (2-1) struck out nine Saturday to help the West Lowndes High School baseball team beat Nanih Waiya 9-6.
Lucious also was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to help the Panthers improve to 2-3.
Fredrico Moody was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
On Friday, Bruce beat West Lowndes 16-2. Trevor Stowers took the loss. Moody had two hits and two RBIs.
West Lowndes will play at East Webster on Tuesday.
n Pickens Academy loses to Southern Academy: Bryant Fikes had two hits, but it wasn”t enough as the Pickens Academy baseball team lost to Southern Academy 2-1.
Cody McDaniel had a hit, and Sam Beechler also had a sacrifice fly for the Pirates.
Jacob Acker allowed four hits, but a two-run home run in the third inning proved to be the difference. He struck out four and walked three.
