The Friends of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library continues its Table Talk series April 13 with a dual presentation by Tom and Emma Richardson. Dr. Tom Richardson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi University for Women, will discuss various ideas about “what poetry is” by reading examples of “poems about poetry” and poems that experiment with language and the “look” of poems on the printed page.
Emma Richardson, who teaches English, Creative Writing, and Southern Writers at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, will discuss how her own poetry writing has opened up a “conversation” with her students about poetry (regarding “what” it means and “how” it means) and how her own writing has enhanced her teaching of creative writing classes. She will read from her own work, as well as that of her students.
“We hope the community will join us in for this salute to National Poetry Month and National Library Week, which runs from April 10-16,” related Friends board member Jo Shumake.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for those wishing to bring their lunch and socialize before the program begins at noon. The Friends will serve iced tea.
Table Talk will be presented each Wednesday in April at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, 314 Seventh St. N. For more information on the series, contact the Friends at [email protected]
