Pi Zeta chapter receives top honors

The Pi Zeta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. received top recognition at the 79th South Eastern Regional Conference recently held in Birmingham, Ala. 

 

The local undergraduate chapter on the campus of Mississippi University for Women was awarded first place for Service Project, Soles for Souls, a shoe drive designated to distribute shoes to needy families.  

 

The chapter also received the Achievement Award for implementing noteworthy targeted programs; the Exhibit Award for demonstrating and documenting conference attendance, submitting timely reports, maintaining academic excellence, campus involvement and sister relations; the Flag Award for displaying the conference theme and an honor for participating in the conference Step Show. 

 

South Eastern Regional Director Adrienne P-K Washington presided and more than 2,500 members from Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee were in attendance. 

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women.
