JACKSON -- Attorney Amanda Tyre Watson has been selected to be the state law librarian by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Watson will become acting librarian May 4 as she awaits confirmation by the state Legislature. The position is called for by the state constitution.
The Mississippi University for Women graduate will oversee the library housed in the Gartin Justice Building with the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. It provides legal research materials to the courts, state agencies, lawyers, students and the general public.
Watson will replace Charlie Pearce, who''s been named head of the library system of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
She received a bachelor''s degree from MUW and a law degree from the University of Mississippi. She also has a master''s degree in library science from Florida State University. She was admitted to the bar in 2001.
Watson, 32, has since 2003 served as manager of information services and law librarian for the Phelps Dunbar law firm.
