The Columbus Arts Council will host a free gallery reception to open an exhibit of work by the Possum Town Quilters on Thursday, Aug. 4, 5:30-7 p.m. at the Rosenzweig Arts Center. Light refreshments will be served.
The vision of three local women created The Possum Town Quilters in February of 2007. Since that time, the group has grown to approximately 32 active members.
The mission of the Possum Town Quilters is to promote quilting and learn new and old techniques in this early American art form. In order to promote this goal, the quilters have demonstrations, workshops and guest lecturers every other Saturday at the Rosenzweig Arts Center.
Creating charity quilts is one of the primary objectives of the Possum Town Quilters and in total, they have sewn and donated 19 quilts to Habitat for Humanity.
Each year, the Possum Town Quilters create a quilt for the Rosenzweig Arts Center from their challenge blocks project. This year, viewers can vote on their favorite block during the show, and the quilt will be completed and auctioned or raffled during the annual spring gala.
The exhibit will run through the end of August. The Rosenzweig Arts Center is located at 501 Main St. in downtown Columbus. For more information contact the Columbus Arts Council by calling 328-ARTS (2787) or emailing [email protected].
