In a case of what Columbus Police Department officials believe to be mistaken identity, two men shot into a Columbus family”s apartment Wednesday night.
At 9:42 p.m. two black males knocked on the door of Dwyight Doughty”s home, located at 400 Forrest Blvd., Apt. 9.
Doughty”s son, who is a juvenile and whose name is not being released, answered the door and the two men asked for someone named Chris. When told there was no one named Chris living in the house, one of the two men fired a handgun three times into the home.
Doughty was coming down the apartment”s stairs when his son screamed, “Gun!” slammed the door and both father and son jumped to the floor.
Neither were injured in the shooting.
“This is a working class family; they don”t have any problems with anyone,” said CPD Capt. Fred Shelton. “These people apparently came to the wrong apartment.”
Police found four bullet casings at the scene, which belong to either a .380 or a 9 mm handgun. Three casings were found near the Doughty”s door and another was found in the parking lot. Shelton said the fourth casing was probably the result of the gun accidentally going off after the attack.
Police do not have any suspects at this time.
