STARKVILLE — The Mississippi State baseball team will play a school-record 37 home games during the 2012 baseball season. Head baseball coach John Cohen released the Diamond Dawgs schedule Saturday.
The upcoming season will feature non-conference matchups against Connecticut, Kansas, and first-time opponents Penn State and Washington State. The schedule also includes games against nine NCAA regional participants from a season ago.
“This is an attractive schedule,” Cohen said. “In addition to 15 home games against teams from the nation”s toughest league — the Southeastern Conference. We also play a very challenging pre-conference schedule that includes a vareity of a teams from some great baseball conferences.”
The Bulldogs open their 122nd season of baseball with 18 straight games at Dudy Noble Field, including a season-opening three-game with series with Washington State. That weekend set for Feb. 17 through 19.
MSU finished 38-25 in 2011. The Bulldogs advanced to a super regional for the first time since 2007. The new MSU baseball squad opens fall practice Sept. 23.
MSU Baseball Showcase Camp today
STARKVILLE — The fourth annual MSU Baseball Showcase camp is set for today on the MSU campus. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Palmeiro Center, with the camp scheduled to run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
MSU Coordinator of Camps Nick Mingione said approximately 120 baseball athletes in grades 9 through 12 will participate in the event.
The camp, hosted by the MSU baseball coaching staff, will be conducted at Dudy Noble Field and in the Bulldogs” indoor practice facility, the Palmeiro Center.
NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series postponed
Due to an unfavorable weather forecast, the NeSmith Dirt Car Model Series even set for today at the Magnolia Motor Speedway has been postponed. The $2,000 event will begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 20. The racing card also will include a complete Weekly Racing Series featuring Super Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks.
The pit gate will open at 11 a.m. Nov. 20. The gradstand gates will open at noon. The driver”s meeting will be at 1 p.m.
