A Wednesday night wreck on Highway 45 North resulted in one fatality, police said.
The wreck, which happened around 6:30 p.m., involved a motorcycle and a Mercedes.
Edward J. Dvorak, 56, of Caledonia, was riding his motorcycle north on the highway when a Mercedes attempted to turn left off of Crescent Drive at the Chevron gas station and head south on the highway, Columbus police said.
The motorcycle then collided with the vehicle, police said.
According to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, Dvorak was pronounced dead on scene at 7:12 p.m. and died due to “massive chest trauma.”
Captain Fred Shelton of the Columbus Police Department said the driver of the Mercedes is Leslie Brown, 41, of Columbus.
Shelton said Dvorak was wearing a helmet and there were no additional injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
