Three area artists are among the 13 selected by The Mississippi Museum of Art for inclusion in the 2011 Mississippi Invitational biennial exhibition now open.
Critz Campbell of West Point, Causey Cato of Starkville and Yazoo City, and Susa Nawrocki of Columbus are in the group of Mississippi artists whose work will be on display at the museum at 380 S. Lamar St. in Jackson through Feb. 5, 2012.
Robin Dietrick, curator of exhibitions at the museum, said, “This survey exhibition of artists who live and work in our state is always one of the most anticipated and most exciting exhibitions we present.”
Initiated in 1997, the Mississippi Invitational surveys recent developments by contemporary visual artists living and working across the state and includes work in diverse mediums.
Those selected were chosen from 161 submissions.
“We continue to be amazed by the number of gifted artists for whom Mississippi is home. The 13 included in this year’s Invitational are but a sampling of the talented individuals living and working across our state,” said Museum Director Betsy Bradley.
In addition to exhibiting in the Invitational, all 13 artists are eligible to apply for The Jane Crater Hiatt Artist Fellowship.
Other artists included in the exhibit are Suzi Altman of Brandon, Duncan Baird of Cleveland, Marcus Frazier of Natchez, Tammy McGrew of Port Gibson, Rod Moorhead of Oxford, H.C. Porter and Gretchen Haien of Vicksburg/Jackson, David Jason Pressgrove of Jackson, Steve Shepard of Gautier and Evert Witte of Bay St. Louis.
Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students. For more information, contact the museum at 1-866-843-9278 or visit msmuseumart.org.
