This year's Christmas parade in downtown Columbus has been canceled due to rain. It will not be rescheduled.

Amber Brislin, director of Main Street Columbus Inc., made the announcement shortly before 3 p.m. today, saying the decision was made in an effort to "keep everyone safe and healthy this Christmas season."

This year's parade was expected to be bigger than last year, with more than 100 entries. Brislin said she's not aware of it ever being canceled due to weather. It will not be rescheduled, she said, citing logistics issues with road closings and participant schedules.

The parade was slated to begin at 7 p.m. Rain moved in shortly after noon, with an 85 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the afternoon due to a stalled frontal boundary slowly making its way across the South.

By 7 p.m., temperatures are expected to be in the lower 50s, with a 90 percent chance of rain and winds from the north to northwest at 7 mph.
