GAUTIER — An exhibit that blends science and medicine with the “Harry Potter” books begins a six-week stay at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus library on Jan. 17.
The exhibit runs through Feb. 25.
Librarian Gwendolyn Carter tells the Mississippi Press that the exhibit explores the historical roots of some of the storytelling in the “Harry Potter” books.
She says it highlights Renaissance topics introduced in the books, such as alchemy, astrology and natural philosophy, herbology and the quest for immortality.
She says it also examines the desire for knowledge, the effects of prejudice and the responsibility that comes with power.
The display includes six 3-foot-wide-by-7-foot-high silkscreen panels.
It is one of four traveling exhibits in use around the country.
