ABERDEEN — Former Lowndes County administrator Bobby Eiland was named interim superintendent of Aberdeen schools at a school board meeting Wednesday.
According to Eiland, the school board informed him of the decision after the meeting. Eiland could not comment on how the decision was made.
Eiland, who served as the district’s director of operations for three years, was principal at New Hope High School from 2004 to 2007. Eiland has 21 years of experience in education and lived in New Hope for 18 years.
Aberdeen school board members voted last month to fire Chester Leigh as their top educator. The school board dismissed Chester Leigh in executive session during their regular monthly meeting.
Leigh has been superintendent of schools in Aberdeen since 2009. He had a three-year contract with the district at a salary of $90,000. He replaced Superintendent George Gilreath, who resigned his position after little more than a year at the helm of the school system.
Eiland declined this morning to disclose how much his salary was as director of operations and did not know the specifics of his salary as interim superintendent.
