Avery Dennison, who is from Columbus, was among Mississippi School of the Arts Visual Arts students who recently received a cumulative total of 85 awards in the Regional Scholastic Art Competition.
The contest is hosted by the Mississippi Museum of Art. Students from the School of Arts took home three of the five American Vision Awards (for best in show), 19 Gold Keys, 15 Silver Keys and 48 Honorable Mentions.
Dennison, a senior in the Visual Arts program, received the American Visions Award, four Gold Keys, a Gold Key for her art portfolio, four Silver Keys and four Honorable Mentions in the competition. She is the daughter of Matt and Lisa Dennison.
The students' work will be on display at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson Feb. 4-April 15 as part of the exhibition for the Scholastic Art Awards Competition.
The Mississippi School of the Arts is an 11th- and 12th-grade visual and performing arts residential, public high school located on the historic Whitworth College campus in Brookhaven. In addition to traditional Mississippi high school curriculum, they receive special instruction in visual arts, vocal music, dance, literary arts and theater.
