Texas men arrested in connection with a $1 million drug bust are waiting to be transported to Oxford where they will face federal charges.
Silviano Tinoco Nieto, 30, of 1708 Bunkerhill #145, Dallas, Texas and Gerardo Ortiz Mendez, 31, of 2409 Pine Lake Cir. #235, Austin, Texas, were arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of cocaine, following a raid on a home they were renting at 1601 College St.
In the raid, five kilograms of cocaine, valued at $1 million, were seized.
Bond was denied for Nieto and Mendez, pending their initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Oxford. They remain in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
The home was raided by a multi-agency task force, including the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. The 1500 block of College Street was closed for more than an hour as agents searched the home.
Arrests reported by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Police Department this week include:
Deangelo Monta, 35, of 322 22 St. N, was arrested by the LCSO on Feb. 29 and charged with possession of a controlled substance. His court date and bond remain to be set.
David Dewayne Barr, 25, of 14133 Moon Heard Rd., Prairie, was arrested by the CPD on Feb. 29 and charged with embezzlement. His bond was set at $400 and his court date is April 21.
Travis Lamar Jackson, 22, of 40151 Wolfe Road, was arrested on March 1 by the LCSO and charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $10,000 and his court date is May 14.
Ernest Todd Petrash, 34, of 74 Wesley Ln., was arrested by LCSO on March 2 and charged with failure to register as a sex offender and domestic violence. His bond was set at $1,000 on the domestic violence charge. His court date has not been set.
Brian Matthew Peeks, 32, of 132 Cantrell St., was arrested March 3 by the LCSO and charged with no drivers’ license, disobeying a traffic device, driving under the influence and fleeing or eluding in a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $1,210 and his court date is April 10.
Joshua Randle Massey, 29, of 544 Waverly Ferry Rd., was arrested March 3 by the CPD and charged with careless driving, no insurance, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $2,257. His court date is March 28.
Roy Lee Rowe, 30, of 1742 C-R213, Houston, was arrested March 5 by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. His bond was set at $745. His court date is April 3.
Bourgeois Chevlor Shanklin, 33, of 323 Jess Lyons Rd., was arrested March 5 by the LCSO and charged with fleeing or eluding in a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $1,500 and his court date has not been set.
Scott Gregory Collier, 21, was arrested March 6 by LCSO and was charged with possession of methamphetamine. His bond and court date have not been set.
