Skeletal remains found Feb. 14 in Oktibbeha County have been identified as those of a man who had been missing about 11 years.
Investigators with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office Monday identified the remains as belonging to Jamashed Aryana, 63, who lived on Maroon Street in Oktibbeha County.
“We had feelings from the beginning the remains would be those of (Jamashed Aryana),” OCSO Lt. Brett Watson said. “We found some things on the scene that gave us an indication of who it was. We do not think foul play was involved with the death and we are not investigating this as a homicide. But it is still under investigation at this time.”
The remains were found in the Adaton community by a landowner checking a fence on his heavily wooded property. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said a DNA comparison with a family member confirmed Aryana’s identity.
“A DNA test proved the remains to be Mr. Aryana,” Hunt said. “The testing took approximately six weeks to complete.”
Aryana was reported missing in March of 2001.
