The Friends of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library launches its April Table Talk series with a presentation by Sidney L. “Sid” Salter, journalist in residence at the Mississippi State University Libraries. Salter will discuss his recent work, “Jack Cristil: Voice of the MSU Bulldogs,” the 2011 biography of the longtime dean of Southeastern Conference sports radio broadcasters.
Dubbed by The Washington Post as “one of the nation’s best state political reporters,” Salter also produces other unique written and digital content for the university as well as serving as an instructor to MSU students in communications and political science.
“We’re delighted to have this chance to bring Sid Salter to Columbus,” said Friends member Jo Shumake. “In addition to his discussion of the legendary Jack Cristil, I’m sure we’ll have the opportunity to tap into his thoughts on other political, social and governmental issues.”
Table Talk will be presented on Wednesdays in April at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, 314 Seventh St. N. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for those wishing to bring their lunch and socialize before the program begins at noon. The Friends will serve iced tea.

n April 11 — Arkansas attorney and author Grif Stockley discusses his award-winning biography of “Daisy Bates: Civil Rights Crusader from Arkansas.”
n April 18 — Jessica Peterson, Mississippi University for Women graphic design instructor, book artist, and owner of The Southern print shop, discusses the art and craft of printing and creating a book.
n April 25 — Award-winning newspaper columnist Rheta Grimsley Johnson talks about her newest book on Hank Williams, “Hank Hung the Moon … and Warmed Our Cold, Cold Hearts.”
