Magnolia Motor Speedway will play host to one of the biggest events in the history of the facility this weekend with the inaugural Spring Throw Down.
Two huge shows, a possible payout of $10,000 to win for Super Late Models, and big money for the local divisions will be featured. As if a total weekend purse in excess of $60,000 wasn’t enough, perfect weather is in the forecast for all three days.
Promoters Johnny Stokes and Dewitt Singleton have teamed to present the inaugural Spring Throw Down. The Super Late Model event will be highlighted by a $2,000-to-win event Friday night and an $8,000-to-win event Saturday night.
“We originally thought about having a two-day, $10,000-to-win show, but we decided that in this day and time drivers would rather have a chance to make money each night, and clearly fans would rather see a complete program each night,” Stokes said. “As a result, Dewitt (Singleton) and myself came up with this event. From the feedback we’ve had so far it looks like a lot of drivers and fans like the idea and plan to be here.”
NeSmith Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks also will contest complete shows each night with increased purses. Weekly points will be in effect for these divisions for both nights.
Drivers from at least eight states are expected for this weekend’s events as some of the top national, regional, and local drivers are planning to attend either one night or both nights of the event.
The three-extravaganza, which will pay out more than $40,000 in total purse to the Super Late Model division, will begin with an open practice from 7-10 tonight.
On Friday, a $2,000-to-win/$125-to-start, 25-lap event will be held for the Super Late Model division. NeSmith Late Models will battle for $700-to-win, Street Stocks will be in action for $400-to-win, and Mini Stocks will race for $225-to-win. The pit gates will open at 3 p.m. The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. There will be a driver’s meeting at 6 p.m. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
An $8,000-to-win/$400-to-start, 50-lap event for the Super Late Model class will headline Saturday’s event. The NeSmith Late Models will be racing for $1,000-to-win. Street Stocks will race for $500-to-win, and Mini Stocks will battle for $300-to-win.
On Saturday, the pit gate will open at 2 p.m. Grandstands will open at 4 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 5:15 p.m. Racing will start at 6 p.m.
The entry fee for Super Late Models is $50 for Friday and $100 for Saturday. If a driver is present both nights the entry fee is only $125 for the weekend. There is no entry fee for local divisions. Transponders are required for Super Late Models and NeSmith Late Models, and may be rented for $20 for the weekend.
Adult grandstand admission is $35 for a two-day pass. Grandstand admission tonight is free. On Friday night, adult grandstand admission will be $15. It will be $25 Saturday night. Kids 10 and under are free in the grandstands on Friday night, and on Saturday night (ages 6-10) are $5 with ages 5 and under free.
