CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — There still is a three-way tie for the points lead after Week 2 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season.
The top three drivers have a win and a second-place finish to tally 99 points after the first two weeks, and just five points separate the top 10.
Shannon Lee, of Lumberton, started off the weekend with a victory in the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. His win followed a second-place finish in Week 1 competition.
Jeremy Shaw, of Millport, Ala., grabbed a second-place finish in the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway to go with a Week 1 win.
Jim McDuffie, of Meridian, the 2011 and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, also has 99 points to share the points lead. McDuffie finished second Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, where he had a Week 1 victory driving the McDuffie Racing Trak-Star.
Justin McRee, of Cottonwood, Ala., drove the High Roller Race Cars Special to a win Saturday night in a 23-car field at Whynot Motorsports Park. The finish “J-Mac” up to fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings (98 points). He finished third in Week 1 competition.
Scott Ladner, of Lumberton, has a pair of top-five finishes to settle into the fifth spot with 96 points, while Ryan King, of Seymour, Tenn., and Shay Knight, of Columbus, share the sixth spot with 95 points apiece.
Blake Koenigsberger, of Columbus, drove the W.D. Pate Enterprises Special to victory Saturday night at Columbus Speedway to move into a three-way tie for the eighth (94 points) with Cory Hedgecock, of Loudon, Tenn., and Hunter Carroll, of Columbus, in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 2 action, Anthony White, of Clinton, Tenn., drove the J.T. Racing Equipment Stinger to a win Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. David Crabtree, of Maryville, Tenn., the apparent winner, failed the post-race technical inspection with unapproved valve springs.
Adam Gauldin, of Talladega, Ala., took the win Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., driving the Gauldin Racing GRT.
Joey Thomas, of Seale, Ala., was the winner Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala., driving the BTR-Scorpion Race Cars Special.
Mickey Trosclair, of Luling, La., took his second straight win in the Trosclair Racing Special on Saturday night at Pike County Speedway in McComb.
Chris O’Connor, of Cantonment, Fla., also posted a 40-point win, driving the O’Connor Racing Special on Saturday night at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Ala.
