"Food Network Star" Season 8 Finalist Linkie Marais will teach her first set of in-depth cake decorating classes Aug.18 and 19 in Tupelo.
On this season's "Food Network Star," Marais, a 2006 Mississippi University for Women Culinary Arts Institute graduate, was a fan favorite known for her desserts.
Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Bobby Flay frequently praised her cooking. The show's judges often bragged on her delicious creations and her personality that "exudes warmth on so many levels."
The two classes offered are designed to be interactive and will include demonstrations by Marais, as well as plenty of hands-on for participants.
"Cake Decorating: The Basics" on Aug. 18 is an introductory focusing on working with buttercream frosting to create one-of-a-kind cakes.
"Cake Decorating: Advanced" on Aug. 19 is for students who want to work in-depth with fondant, colors, gumpaste and multi-tiered cakes.
Classes are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and cost $175 per person, which includes all supplies needed for the day. Space is limited. If enrolling in both classes, the total cost is $285, a discount of $65.
Classes in Tupelo will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn BancorpSouth Conference Center and are sponsored by Marais' mentor, Creative Cakes of Tupelo.

Marais, originally from South Africa, moved with her family to Tupelo when she was 16. In high school, she worked for a wedding company, where she decorated wedding cakes and catered.
After earning a degree in culinary arts at MUW, Marais worked as a pastry chef and cake artist. She moved to Boston, Mass., where she worked in a high-profile baking company. The 28-year-old currently lives in North Attleborough, Mass., with her husband
Competing against thousands of other contestants, Marais became a finalist on the "Food Network Star" Season 8 in 2012 and garnered numerous fans and accolades. She currently is working on her first cookbook, and teaching pastry and cake decorating classes.
Marais is expected to visit the MUW campus later this month. Details will be released soon.
