CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Tony Gray, of Coker, Ala., and Jeff Glisson, of Boaz, Ky., were the big winners in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 action.
Both drivers picked up a pair of victories last weekend. Bret Holmes, of Munford, Ala., also earned a victory to move into the top 10 in the point standings.
Gray drove the Gray Motorsports Special to two wins Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus. The first race was a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 11 makeup race, and the second victory came in the Week 20 event. Gray now has three wins this season.
Glisson drove the SGR Equipment Rocket to his third win of the season Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, Mo., by outrunning the top two drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, Mickey Trosclair, of Luling, La., who finished third, and Chase Washington, of Houlka, who finished second. Glisson took his second win of the weekend, and his fourth of the season, Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn.
Holmes picked up his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., driving the Holmes II Excavating Special. The 50-point victory came in the 14th week of competition for the 14-year-old driver, and vaulted him into the ninth spot of the point standings.
Just four points separate the top three drivers in the point standings, and 10 points separate the top six. All drivers in the Top 20 of the points chase have now reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons and are now netting points by trying the replace the lowest weekly total with a higher one.
Trosclair continues to hold a three-point lead over Washington in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase for the $10,000 Championship. Trosclair netted one point with his third-place finish Friday night at Malden Speedway. Trosclair has 794 points.
Jeremy Shaw, of Millport, Ala., netted six points with a fourth-place finish Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway to move up to third in the standings with 790 points.
