CPD arrests armed robbery suspect

A Columbus man is currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after allegedly committing an armed robbery on Tuesday.  

 

Benjamin Shelby Wells, 21, of 2208 26th St N., was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of felony armed robbery.  

 

According to Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Glenda Buckhalter, Wells is believed to have robbed King's Grocery in the 1700 Block of Martin Luther King Drive. He was arrested on Wednesday by CPD investigators.  

 

He is currently in the LCADC on a $25,000 bond.  

 

 

 

The following arrests were also reported by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Columbus Police Department: 

 

  • Kristopher Deondra Colvin, 21, of 1917 14th Ave. N., Apt. A, was arrested by MDOC Oct. 3 and charged with violation of probation. He has not been released. 

     

  • Brittany Dobbs, 25, of 2424 Seventh Ave. N., was arrested by LCSO Oct. 3 and charged with two counts of fraudulent use of an ID. She was released the same day on a $5,000 bond. Her court date is scheduled for Nov. 13. 

     

  • Alonzo Macon, 54, of 1320 Seventh St. S., was arrested by MDOC Oct. 3 and charged with violation of probation. He has not been released. 

     

  • Laura Whitten Taylor, 59, of 373 Plymouth Road, was arrested by LCSO Oct. 3 and charged with felony false pretense. She was released the same day on a $1,000 bond. Her court date is scheduled for Nov. 13.
