A Hamilton, Miss., man has confessed to setting fire to a house he owns in Oktibbeha County, officials with the Starkville Police Department say.

Christopher Lee Steed, 34, failed a polygraph given by the State Fire Marshal's Office on Wednesday, and after further investigation by Starkville Police Detective Stephanie Perkins and Starkville Fire Department Lt. Charles Yarbrough, Steed confessed to the crime.

The fire occurred at 1000 Louisville St. #30 in Starkville. Steed said he started the fire in the master bedroom, where he lit a roll of toilet paper with a match and dropped it in a recliner and left the residence.

Steed's bond was set at $5,000.
