The Southeast Tourism Society has once again named Columbus’ Market Street Festival and Sounds of Summer as Top 20 Events in the Southeast, Main Street Columbus announced Thursday.
For a 14th consecutive year, Market Street Festival is honored as a Top 20 event for May. Plans are already underway for the 18th annual festival, set for May 3-4, 2013.
What began in 1996 has grown into two-day festival with more than 250 arts, crafts and food vendors and activities for the entire family. The two-day event boasts multiple music stages, an expansive hands-on children’s area, antiques car show, juried art competition, a 5K run and much more.
“Market Street Festival contributes its successes to the support and participation of area community organizations, local government, businesses, artists, musicians, residents, sponsors and over 400 volunteers,” said Main Street Columbus Director Amber Brislin. “Without this combination, the festival would not be possible.”
Sounds of Summer
For the second consecutive year, Sounds of Summer has been recognized as a Top 20 Event for June and July. The joint venture sponsored by Main Street Columbus the Columbus-Lowndes Development LINK provides a series of free summer concerts at the Riverwalk in historic downtown Columbus during summer. Numerous other business sponsors and volunteers also help make the concert series possible.
“Sounds of Summer is an outstanding event we take great pride in participating in every year,” said Macaulay Whitaker, vice president of the LINK Chamber Division. “Community businesses and organizations bringing quality, family events to our area — it’s the kind of programming we’re all about.”
