A Columbus man led law enforcement on a chase that spanned two counties Wednesday in an attempt to avoid being taken to Baptist Memorial Behavorial Care.
Lowndes County Chief Deputy Marc Miley with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department said deputies went to Phillip Parker’s home on Barton Ferry Road Wednesday morning with a writ to take custody. As is common practice, the deputies were set to transport Parker to Baptist. Parker, who was not home at the time, pulled up to the residence as deputies were leaving and fled the scene when he saw them. Miley said Parker led them on a low speed pursuit to Monroe County then back to Lowndes County before he surrendered in the parking lot of the National Guard recruiting office on Highway 45.
Although the deputies deployed numerous spike strips in an attempt to stop Parker’s vehicle, he managed to avoid them. He reportedly had a gun in his possession.
He was apprehended on the scene without further incident.
