The Starkville Area Arts Council has announced it will extend the deadline for song entries in its 2013 Cotton District Arts Festival Songwriter’s Competition until Friday, Feb. 1.
“We’ve extended the deadline to Feb. 1 to welcome the kind of incredible diversity of songs we’ve seen over the past two years,” said Candy Crescink of the SAAC.
The competition is open to professional and amateur songwriters. Songs will be judged on originality, melody, composition, structure and lyrics. All genres of music are accepted; the competition is open to all ages.
First, second and third place prizes will be $250 cash, $100 cash, and $75 cash, respectively. All winners will be given the opportunity to perform their song on the Cotton District Arts Festival CVB Main Stage in April.
Applications to submit entries may be downloaded at starkvillearts.org/downloads/2013/2013songwriter.pdf. Songs should be submitted on a CD.
