The Stephen D. Lee Foundation will celebrate its third annual Valentine’s Day Party on Feb. 14 from 7:30-10 p.m. at Errolton, the antebellum home of Gaines and Keith Gaskin in Columbus. The fundraiser will benefit the S.D. Lee Home and Museum.
“Guests will spend a special evening with friends and family while surrounded by a stunning array of flowers, desserts and spirits,” said Eulalie Davis, president of the S.D. Lee Foundation.
The best bakers in Columbus are preparing delicious desserts in support of the Lee Home, said Davis. Guests will be entertained with piano music throughout the night, as Lee Home docents serve as hostesses.
“We appreciate Gaines and Keith volunteering to hold our event in their historic and magnificent home. We were thrilled with the response to our past two events and look forward to providing another elegant evening to our patrons,” Davis remarked. “What could be more romantic than being in a home that has celebrated 165 Valentine’s Days?”
Event hours will allow guests to have an early or late dinner and attend the fundraiser for a wide variety of specialty desserts. In keeping with Errolton’s antebellum ambiance, selections will include desserts that were as popular in earlier eras as they are in the 21st century. “We’ll have divinity, chocolate cheesecake, beautiful coconut cakes, truffles, candies, chocolates of all kinds and more,” said Diane Gatewood, a longtime Lee Home docent and a member of the organizing committee. In addition to Davis, committee members also include Judy Livingston, Linda Scarbrough, Lillian Wade and Betty Waters.
“The Lee Home is a very big asset to our community and used so often for so many different things — weddings, gatherings, meetings, conferences, luncheons and dinners,” Gatewood remarked. “This important fundraiser is one way to help make improvements and keep it in wonderful condition for our community to use.”
