A Crawford man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after he allegedly abducted his girlfriend and held her against her will in early January.
James Dooley Jr., 26, of 116 O’Neal St. in Crawford, was arrested Jan. 28 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., by the U.S. Marshals assigned to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.
Dooley was transported back to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with kidnapping. He also had two outstanding warrants for contempt of court and burglary of a commercial building. He received a $7,500 bond.
Officials with the sheriff’s department said Dooley held his girlfriend against her will for two days. The two traveled by car back and forth between Crawford and a location in Noxubee County. The victim told investigators that Dooley had a gun in his possession throughout the two-day period.
Investigators said the woman escaped from Dooley while the two were in Noxubee County. She fled on foot until she encountered two hunters, who then called 911. She was unharmed during the incident.
Dooley was hiding at the home of relatives in Tuscaloosa at the time of his arrest. He is still in the custody of the LCADC.
