Two men believed to be responsible for numerous burglaries in Lowndes County have been arrested.
Steven Deshun Blevins, 30, of 102 South Browder St., and Eddie Anthony Williams, 28, of 132 Lee St., were arrested Thursday afternoon after a Lowndes County deputy noticed the two men outside a home on Jolly Ridge Road in north Columbus. Law enforcement believe the men were prepared to burglarize the residence.
The deputy noticed that a Honda Civic with an Alabama license plate matched the description of a vehicle connected with several area burglaries. Another deputy arrived on scene and the two questioned Blevins and Williams and the suspects were arrested. A search of their vehicle produced several items from area burglaries, including guns and jewelry.
Deputies had received reports that the two men had been staying at various homes in east Columbus and search warrants of those residences produced additional items believed to be stolen from homes in Lowndes County and Alabama. Those items included guns, large amounts of ammunition, televisions, game systems, jewelry, knives and swords.
Blevins and Williams could be linked to six burglaries in Lowndes County and two in Alabama, Arledge said today.
Additional search warrants are expected throughout the day.
Arledge said the investigation is ongoing. He said the men are believed to be involved with a string of burglaries that began in December. The two men used latex gloves at the homes they burglarized. As the burglaries mounted, the sheriff’s department devoted more resources to the search for the men.
“We’ve been bringing in extra deputies on their days off and put some in unmarked patrol cars,” Arledge said. “The good thing is that these guys are caught and they’re behind bars.”
Blevins does not have a felony record but Williams has been arrested previously on drug and burglary charges. In addition to the pending burglary charges, Williams was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon for a large military-style knife he had in his possession.
A bond hearing is expected this afternoon.
