STARKVILLE — The Mississippi State University men’s basketball will be without its most experienced guard for the foreseeable future.
Less than three hours before his team’s game Saturday afternoon against No. 2 University of Florida, MSU coach Rick Ray announced the indefinite suspension of junior Jalen Steele for a violation of team rules.
MSU men’s basketball team spokesperson Gregg Ellis said in a university release that the program would make further comment on the matter.
Steele didn’t travel to Gainesville, Fla., for MSU’s 83-58 loss to Florida.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native has appeared in 13 games this season (11 starts). He missed eight games after he fractured his wrist in early November against Florida Atlantic University. Steele is fourth on the team in scoring (9.5 points per game) and third on the team in minutes per game (26.4).
The suspension means MSU (7-15, 2-8 Southeastern Conference) will have six scholarship players and two walk-ons available.
