STARKVILLE --The Mississippi State University baseball team climbed to No. 3 in the Baseball America rankings released Monday.

MSU, which is riding a season-opening 15-game winning streak, will put that ranking on the line at 6:30 tonight when it plays host to Mississippi Valley State University at Dudy Noble Field.

MSU's winning streak, which is the best in the nation, marks its best start to open a season since the 2006 team reeled off 18 straight wins.

The ranking in the Baseball America poll is MSU's highest since it climbed to No. 1 in 2006.

Sophomore Brandon Woodruff (1-0, 1.80) is scheduled to make his third start today.

In addition to climbing to No. 3 in the Baseball America poll, MSU jumped from ninth to fifth in the Collegiate Baseball rankings, from No. 13 to No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches' poll, and from 16th to 10th in the Perfect Game poll.
