Heritage Academy has rescinded its decision to change its name.
The school announced earlier this week that it intended to rename Heritage Academy to Columbus Heritage Academy. Friday, Heritage board president Jeff Farnham sent out a letter stating the board had changed its mind due to public outcry.
"In light of the response we have received regarding the inclusion of Columbus in the name of Heritage Academy, the board has passed a motion to rescind the approval of the name change," the letter stated. "We appreciate all the feedback, both positive and negative. The board of directors never intended to infringe upon the traditions of Heritage Academy or distract from the school's many accomplishments and achievements. We have heard the sentiments of our patrons and alumni and feel this is the right course of action at this time."
The school also announced the decision on its Facebook page Friday. The private school opened in 1964 and has been known as Heritage Academy since that time.
