JACKSON -- Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has ordered a period of mourning March 30 to honor the death of state Rep. Jessica Upshaw.

Upshaw, a Republican from Diamondhead, was found dead Sunday outside the home of former Rep. Clint Rotenberry, of Mendenhall, on March 24.

Authorities say she died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head but autopsy results are pending.

Bryant issued an executive order Thursday ordering state flags on Mississippi buildings and grounds be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday.

In the document, Bryant called Upshaw a respected member of the Legislature and a dedicated public servant. He said the prayers of the state are with her family and friends.

Upshaw was 53 and had served in the Legislature since 2004.
