Heritage Academy baseball team sweeps doubleheader

The Heritage Academy baseball team may be finding its stride at the right time of the season. 

 

Heritage Academy extended its winning streak to seven games Wednesday, sweeping Jackson Academy 11-1 in a doubleheader in Columbus. The first game was called in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule, while the fifth game was called after four-and-a-half innings. 

 

In game one, left-hander Jace Caldwell limited the Raiders to three hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out five. The Patriots broke it open with an eight-run fourth inning. 

 

Cody Mordecai was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, Parker Dunaway and James Clark were 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, M.J. Hamrick was 1-for-3 (double) with two runs scored and an RBI, Caldwell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Mark Thatcher had an RBI, Clark Atkins was 1-for-3 with a run scored, Hunter Sykes was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI, Matt Sykes was 1-for-2 (double) with a run scored and an RBI, and Coop Parker scored a run. 

 

In game two, Mordecai allowed just two hits and an unearned run to get the victory. He walked two and struck out eight. He also was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. 

 

Clark was 1-for-2, Hamrick was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, Caldwell was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and an RBI, Thatcher had two RBIs and scored two runs, Atkins was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, Parker and Tyler Anderson scored runs, and Parker Short was 1-for-1 with an RBI. 

 

Heritage Academy will play host to Pickens Academy (Ala.) at 6 p.m. Friday.
