WEST POINT -- A federal judge has denied a request to block today's runoff elections in West Point.
Alderman Jasper Pittman and four other residents filed suit Friday to have the city's May 7 primary thrown out and today's runoff stopped.
Pittman, who was seeking re-election, fell one vote short of getting into a runoff with businessman Gary Dedeaux.
WCBI-TV in Columbus reports that U.S. District Judge Michael Mills ruled on the request Monday.
Pittman's attorney Scott Colom of Columbus says he will appeal.
Pittman argued the city's election commission improperly ran the election at the request of Democratic Party Chairman Thomas Storey and that Storey didn't have that authority.
Pittman argued some absentee and affidavit votes were improperly counted for Dedeaux, while others for him and another candidate were improperly discarded.
