My top five must-haves no Southern belle should be without this summer will keep you looking lovely, whether your toes are in the sand or your favorite stilettos.
Waterproof mascara: It’s sweat proof even though we know men perspire while ladies glisten when the mercury rises outside in the summertime heat. Two of my favorites are Dior’s Diorshow and Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous. One rule I abide by to give the eyes a fresh, modern appeal is to apply several coats of black onto the upper lashes and brown onto the bottom lashes.
Bronzer: Everyone could benefit from a sun-kissed glow on the face, even if it is faux. I love Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess collection which includes a shimmer and matte powder. When swirled onto the brow bone, cheeks and nose with a brush, it wakes the face up with color. If you prefer a gel, try the Luminous Liquid Bronzer in the same collection.
Long-lasting Lip Gloss: I confess glosses are famous for their shine, not for their staying power; however, Chanel’s Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss Pure Shine Intense Colour Long Wear Lip Gloss (whew, that’s a tongue-twister!) is worth every penny for its glassy shine and color that lasts. Expert tip? Rub an exfoliating scrub over lips to remove dry, flaky skin followed by a moisturizing lip balm before applying my favorite shade, Imaginaire. Another one that makes my heart skip a beat is Lancome’s La Laque Fever Lipshine in Rose Macaroon or Electric Pink.
Summer Scent: It’s hot outside whether you’re perusing the crowded farmers’ market or all alone on a porch swing. So, here is the best way to stop and smell the roses. Spritz on some of summer’s newest perfumes that are light, floral and fresh. Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea Honeysuckle is an invigorating burst of a summer garden, and I am obsessed with L’Occitane’s Eaux de Colognes in three intoxicating scents sprung from nature–Captivante, Universelle and Ravissante.
Sunglasses: Don’t scrimp when it comes to protecting your eyes from the bright UV rays of the sun. Remember, squinting leads to wrinkles! Invest in a pair of quality sunglasses that say something about your personality. The bigger frames will guard more of your delicate eye area. The darker the lens, the better, and when the sun goes down put them in a scratch-proof case. My love affair with sunglasses is epic. Right now I’m crushing on a pair of tortoise-shell Louis Vuittons in a vintage style. Oh, well, they may have to wait until my birthday if you hear anyone asking for gift suggestions.
