The Columbus Housing Authority announces Debra Taylor has been promoted to the position of Deputy Executive Director effective September 1, 2013. In her new role, she will continue her work as resident services coordinator dealing with resident needs and services. In addition, she will have the added responsibilities of Lease Enforcement and Disciplinary actions and overall responsibility for day to day operations in the absence of the Executive Director. She has been with the Housing Authority for 10 years.
Taylor is a 1991 graduate of Mississippi University for Women, where she was on the University's basketball team; and a 2002 graduate of Mississippi State University where she earned a Master's Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Emotional Behavioral Disorders. She is currently pursuing post graduate course work in Business Administration, Accounting, and Management at MSU.
Her professional and civic memberships include the Civitan International, Pro-Link Toastmasters, Public Relations Association of Mississippi, 4-H Advisory Board, Girl Scout Community Advisory Board Member, Lowndes County Young Leaders Committee Member, Mississippi Reading Association, Columbus Air Force Base Community Council Advisory Board, Kids With Character Board Member, Columbus Community Development Committee, and the Golden Triangle Partnership for Healthy Mississippi Chairperson.
She has received certifications from Nan McKay University as a Public Housing Manager, Family Self Sufficiency, Interviewing and Fraud Control, and Public Housing Eligibility.
She was awarded the Columbus Housing Authority's Outstanding Service Award in 2004, the Public Relations Association of Mississippi's Practitioner of the Year Award in 2005, and the Shields Sims Humanitarian Award by the Mississippi Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials in 2009.
Taylor and her husband, Terrance have two children. They are active members of Peter's Rock Temple, Church of God in Christ, where she serves as a Christian Counselor.
