Lawsuit dismissed against forensic pathologist

HATTIESBURG -- A federal judge has dismissed without prejudice a lawsuit filed against forensic pathologist Steven Hayne by a woman acquitted of murder in Lamar County. Jennifer Wardle Hollis filed her lawsuit March 15, requesting unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. 


Hollis was acquitted of a murder charge in the May 1, 2002, shooting death of James Neal May. 


Hollis claimed in her lawsuit that she was falsely accused, indicted and tried of the murder of May. She claimed that Hayne submitted information he knew or should have known was incorrect or recklessly disregarded the veracity of such evidence against her. 


The Hattiesburg American reports U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett entered an order dismissing the suit without prejudice Aug. 28.
