Chris McCool, District Attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit (Fayette, Lamar, and Pickens Counties of Alabama) announces that Keith “Booty” Cox, Chief Investigator for the District Attorney’s Criminal Investigations Division for 24th Judicial Circuit, has been awarded certification in crime scene investigation. The International Association for Identification (IAI) recently confirmed Cox as a Certified Crime Scene Investigator. An applicant for this certification must be of good moral character, high integrity, and good repute and must possess high ethical professional standing, and must complete rigorous testing in order to qualify.
In 2003, Cox also received certification as a crime scene investigator through a program sponsored by the Hoover Police Department and Jeff State Community College after completing 240 hours of training. Cox becomes one of only thirteen law enforcement officers in Alabama to hold a crime scene certification from The IAI, and is currently the only law enforcement investigator in the 24th Circuit to be so certified.
The International Association for Identification is a professional membership organization comprised of individuals worldwide who work in the field of forensic identification. With over 6,500 members from 77 countries, the IAI remains the oldest and largest forensic science/identification association in the world, according to the IAI’s website.
